I am directed by Mr. Secretary Churchill to inform you that, suoject to your being parged by the Medical Adviser of this Departent ae, physically fit for service, he proposes to select you for probationary appointment as an assistant Mistress in the "ducation Department of Hong Kong, with Palary at the rate of 2500 a year, rising by annual increments of 220 to 2340 a year.

2. The currency of Hong Kong is a silver dollar currency, the exchange value of the dollar with sterling varying with the price of silver.

The salaries fixed in sterling are paid to officers actually serving in Hong Kong at a rate of con- version fixed by the Government. This rate is now 2/- the dollar, but is liable to alteration. In view, however, of the fluctuation of the exchange value of the dollar a temporary exchange allowance is paid, varying from 9% of salary when exchange
